Legal Skills 101 Training

Both classes in the series should be taken. Program attorneys will provide training to enhance your knowledge of court process and dependency law. For newer CASAs, this is an opportunity to reinforce the information presented during OT and address questions you may have as you work on your first cases. For experienced CASAs, the series will not only be a refresher but will provide information based on the latest court procedural changes, statutory amendments, and the impact of recent appellate cases on our practice.
This training includes a discussion of pertinent Guardian Ad Litem Rules but does not duplicate the GALR training.
Covered topics include:
- Overview of the shelter care process
- Negotiating agreed dependency and dispositional orders
- Motions
- Confidentiality, records, discovery
- Permanency planning from a legal perspective
- The July 2021 Visitation Law/CASA responsibilities and rights/GALR
- Working with CASA legal staff
- Trial Preparation
